Correva l’anno 1920 quando iniziarono le gesta sportiva dei neroverdi sassolesi. Il 17 luglio di quell’anno, infatti, il Sassuolo si affiliò alla Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio disputando il suo primo campionato a livello regionale. L’anniversario della squadra è ricordato nel nuovo stemma societario riportato nei gagliardetti consegnati da Capitan Magnanelli al collega avversario nelle gare di campionato della stagione in corso. Un gagliardetto che non si ferma solo alla celebrazione ma che esprime, nell’abbraccio ideale al tricolore degli anni della ricorrenza, l’attaccamento al simbolo nazionale per antonomasia ed inoltre, con lo stemma cittadino, l’attaccamento della squadra alla città. I tre colli che rappresenterebbero per gli studiosi di araldica le caratteristiche morfologiche di Sassuolo, località particolarmente sassosa, nonché i due narcisi sporgenti dalle rocce a significare idealmente – come confermato dal motto cittadino “Sic ex murice gemmae” ovvero “Dai sassi nacquero le gemme” – la grande fermezza cittadina virtù così radicata da far nascere fiori anche tra i sassi.
La storia del Sassuolo e le sue insegne non furono, tuttavia, sempre in nero – verde. Alla fondazione infatti i colori adottati dalla squadra erano il giallo e rosso mentre, negli anni settanta, si arrivò anche al rosso e blu, colori presenti anche nel gonfalone cittadino.
In questi stendardi lo stemma circolare rappresentava anche, con una linea spezzata posta ai piedi dei colli, il fiume Secchia che attraversa Sassuolo.
Il rossoblù alla fine degli anni settanta viene nuovamente soppiantato dal nero – verde che ancora caratterizza gli attuali gagliardetti ed il cui significato non è mai stato chiarito. Certo è che questi colori sono sinonimo di tenacia, volontà e ambizione. Prerogative di una squadra di provincia oramai in pianta stabile in serie A e capace anche di disputare l’Europa League nella stagione 2016 – 2017.
“Mai smettere di pedalare” diceva il “papà” del Sassuolo il grande e compianto Presidente Giorgio Squinzi.
Un detto sportivo ma anche una metafora di vita. Quella che impersona il Sassuolo che da anni è una delle più belle realtà calcistiche nazionali.
HUNDRED YEARS OF “SASÔL”
It was the year 1920 when the sporting feats of the Sassuolo “neroverdi” began. In fact, on 17 July of that year, Sassuolo joined the Italian Football Federation, playing its first championship at the regional level. The team’s anniversary is commemorated in the new club emblem shown on the pennants handed out by Captain Magnanelli to his opponent colleague in the current season’s championship matches. A pennant that does not stop only at the celebration but which expresses, in the ideal embrace of the tricolor of the anniversary years, the attachment to the national symbol par excellence and also, with the city crest, the attachment of the team to the city. The three hills that would represent for heraldry scholars the morphological characteristics of Sassuolo, a particularly stony locality, as well as the two narcissus protruding from the rocks to ideally mean – as confirmed by the city motto “Sic ex murice gemmae” or “Gems were born from the stones” – the great firmness of the city, a virtue so deeply rooted that flowers even grow among the stones
The history of Sassuolo and its insignia were not, however, always in black and green. In fact, at the foundation the colors adopted by the team were yellow and red while, in the seventies, they also came to red and blue, colors also present in the city banner.
In these banners the circular coat of arms also represented, with a broken line placed at the foot of the hills, the river Secchia which crosses Sassuolo.
The red and blue at the end of the seventies is again supplanted by the black and green that still characterizes the current pennants and whose meaning has never been clarified. What is certain is that these colors are synonymous with tenacity, will and ambition. Prerogatives of a provincial team now on a permanent basis in Serie A and also capable of competing in the Europa League in the 2016-2017 season.
“Never stop pedaling” said the “father” of Sassuolo the great President Giorgio Squinzi. A sporting saying but also a life metaphor. The one that personifies Sassuolo, which for years has been one of the most beautiful national football realities.
